DOG EXERCISE AREA RULES
Permit required. Owners of dogs are required to purchase a permit prior to use of the dog exercise area. Permit may be purchased at the Parks and Recreation Office.
Leash Requirements. Dogs must be restrained by a leash of six feet or less in length at all times while entering, exercising or leaving the dog park.
Licensing and Vaccination Requirements. Any dog being exercised in the dog exercise area must be legally licensed and vaccinated and shall exhibit proof of vaccination on collar or leash.
Only Dogs Allowed. The dog exercise area is designated for the exercise of dogs only; no other animals are allowed.
Age. No dog under four months of age is permitted in the exercise area.
This is due to the vaccination age of puppies—most are not vaccinated for rabies until at least three months of age.
The dog exercise area is quite rough and dogs should be able to traverse the ground easily.
Child Supervision. Children accompanying adults who are exercising their dogs shall be kept under strict supervision while in the exercise area.
Waste. The dog’s owner or custodian must clean up dog waste. Waste must be sealed in a bag before disposal in a waste receptacle.
Aggressive Behavior Prohibited. Dogs exhibiting aggressive behavior are prohibited from the dog exercise area. Exhibition of aggressive behavior requires removal of the dog by the owner or custodian.
Aggressive behavior shall be determined by lunging at either people or other dogs in either a menacing or overly friendly manner.
Sniffing, gentle nudging; even some non-threatening growls are often communication between dogs. Should behavior progress beyond the casual level, your dog will need to be removed from the situation or the park.
Female Dogs in Heat Prohibited. Female dogs in heat are prohibited from being in the exercise area.
Dog Exercise Area Closed. The Park and Recreation Director may close the exercise area at any time for cause. Cause can be:
Owner’s refusal to remove aggressive and out-of-control dogs.
Lack of appropriate behavior by dogs or their owners/custodians.
Weather related issues.
